Weight in kg × selected grams-per-kg factor.

Informational estimate only. Verify important financial, health, engineering, or regulatory decisions with a qualified professional.

Understanding the result

This calculator multiplies body weight in kilograms by a grams-per-kilogram factor. It is a transparent way to convert an already chosen protein target into grams per day; it does not decide which factor is medically appropriate for a particular person.

From body weight to grams

The equation is weight (kg) × selected factor (g/kg/day). At 70 kg and 0.8 g/kg, the result is 56 g per day. At 1.2 g/kg, the same weight produces 84 g. Because the factor drives the answer directly, its source matters more than extra decimal precision.

Choosing the factor

Dietary Reference Intakes vary by age and life stage, and sports goals may use different evidence-based ranges. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, growth, recovery and some medical conditions can change needs. People with kidney disease or other conditions should not raise protein intake solely from a general calculator.

Turn a target into food choices

  • Use current weight unless a qualified professional recommends another reference weight.
  • Distribute protein across meals in a pattern you can sustain.
  • Count protein from all foods, not only meat or supplements.
  • Consider overall energy intake, food quality, allergies and dietary preferences.

The result is a daily quantity, not a requirement to consume that exact number every day. Food labels and a short food record can help compare typical intake with the target without implying laboratory-level accuracy.

For meal planning, divide the daily estimate into several approximate portions and check what ordinary foods provide. This makes the target easier to evaluate than treating one large evening serving or a supplement as the default solution. More protein is not automatically more beneficial once needs and total diet are considered.
