Body Frame Size Calculator
How to use this calculator
Enter the values and calculate. Adjust inputs to compare results.
Height ÷ wrist circumference; reference ranges vary.
Informational estimate only. Verify important financial, health, engineering, or regulatory decisions with a qualified professional.
Understanding the result
The body-frame tool divides height in centimetres by wrist circumference in centimetres. The result is a height-to-wrist index. It does not measure bone density, bone width, body fat or health, and there is no universal clinical cutoff that applies to everyone.
Calculating the index
For a height of 175 cm and wrist circumference of 17.5 cm, the index is 175 ÷ 17.5 = 10. Because both inputs use centimetres, the result has no unit. A small wrist-measurement difference can noticeably change the ratio.
Why reference tables disagree
Traditional frame-size tables may use different wrist sites, height bands and sex-specific thresholds. Many were created for older weight-reference systems rather than diagnosis. A label from one chart should not be transferred to another chart or used to set a medically ‘ideal’ weight.
Measure and interpret conservatively
- Measure the wrist at the location required by the reference method.
- Keep the tape close to the skin without tightening it.
- Repeat the measurement and use the same technique for comparisons.
- Do not infer osteoporosis, muscle mass or body-fat percentage from this index.
Frame descriptions can be a rough anthropometric convention, but clinical decisions need validated measurements suited to the question. Bone health, for example, is assessed with medical history and appropriate testing rather than wrist circumference alone.
If the index is being tracked, use the same flexible tape and measurement point each time. Wrist circumference is unlikely to change much in adults, so an unexpected jump usually suggests placement or tension differences. The result is descriptive geometry; it does not reveal the internal dimensions or strength of the skeleton.
Practical questions about Body Frame Size Calculator
Does the index measure bone density?
No. Wrist circumference cannot diagnose low or high bone density.
Can I use inches?
The fields request centimetres; convert both measurements before entry.
What category does my result mean?
Categories depend on the specific reference table, which is why this calculator reports the index only.
Can it determine ideal body weight?
No. It should not be used alone to set a health or weight target.
